Ashleigh Clarke - Law Student

Intern Q&A – Life at Claire Nash Solicitors

Ashleigh Clarke is an LLB Law student at Bournemouth University. During this academic year, she has undertaken a year-long placement at Claire Nash Solicitors, where she has developed valuable skills required for a career as a solicitor and gained a greater understanding of the profession.

Have you had experience across different areas of law at Claire Nash Solicitors?
Yes. During my placement I have gained exposure to a wide range of practice areas, including:

  • Divorce and matrimonial matters

  • Probate

  • Wills

  • Lasting Powers of Attorney

  • Deputyships

  • Conveyancing

Are there any other areas where you have gained experience?
Yes - I have attended business networking events where I have represented Claire Nash Solicitors. This experience has helped me develop my professional confidence as well as my communication and presentation skills, as well as local charity involvement.

Which area have you enjoyed the most?
Divorce and matrimonial work. Family law is an area I particularly enjoyed studying in my second year of my law degree, and having the opportunity to see this area in practice has been invaluable. It has significantly strengthened my interest in pursuing family law as a career.
I have also shadowed Emma Santos - Senior Associate Solicitor and attended a family court hearing.

What is the value of doing an internship?
A placement allows you to put the skills you have learned into practice and develop the core skills required to work in a law firm. As a second-year law student, I was initially unsure whether becoming a solicitor was the right path for me. My placement has helped me confirm that it is, and through my hard work and commitment I have been offered a training contract with Claire Nash Solicitors!

“My placement at Claire Nash Solicitors allowed me to put what I had learned during my law degree into practice and helped confirm that becoming a solicitor is the right career path for me. I have gained exposure to a wide range of practice areas, particularly family law, which has strengthened my interest in pursuing this area in the future.”

Our internships are unpaid, educational placements designed to provide students with insight into the legal profession through observation and supervised experience
